The Post's Oct. 15 editorial "BPOLitics," regarding repealing the
Business, Professional and Occupational License (BPOL) tax in Fairfax
County could unfortunately leave some readers with the impression
that the county would grind to a halt if BPOL is eliminated. Yes, the
county would be forced to search for new ways to cut spending, but
Supervisor Bob Dix's motion to repeal the tax would have created a
measured approach to eliminating this onerous and unfair tax.
It is primarily the inherent unfairness of the tax that militates
for its repeal and not the cost of the tax itself. One would hope
that the tone of editorials would show some balance toward this
distinction, which we have ...
