There are few maxims in jazz, but one that has endured with a
consistency bordering on the metronomic is that Branford Marsalis
will say whatever is on his mind.
The man has few, if any, filters from head to mouth, and perhaps
this is the same crucial disconnection that enables his tenor sax
playing to flow. (We're not going to over-analyze this gift, lest
Marsalis call us between golf rounds and tell us we're full of
something other than concern for his swing.)
First revelation from the never-reticent Marsalis is that his
