FOXBOROUGH - The Patriots continued their trend of "out with the
old and in with the new" yesterday when they released eight-year
veteran guard Todd Rucci, an indication that they are sold on
journeymen Joe Andruzzi and Sale Isaia.
Coach Bill Belichick never took a look at Rucci in a game even
though Rucci had fully recuperated from knee surgery last spring.
Rucci missed the team's mandatory minicamp in June and training camp
in July. He also missed all five exhibition games and all eight
regular-season games.
Rucci, 30, signed a five-year, $10 million deal with a $2.8
million bonus following the 1997 season, at the same time tackle Max
Lane signed for five years and $11 million. The ...
