Two Boston-based business magazines may soon become siblings, with both reporting to corporate parent Gruner & Jahr, the American magazine unit of media giant Bertelsmann A.G.

According to a report in The New York Times, Gruner & Jahr is negotiating to buy Fast Company, the "new economy" business magazine, from real estate developer Mortimer B. Zuckerman.

In June, Gruner & Jahr bought Inc., the magazine for small- business owners and entrepreneurs, from Bernard Goldhirsh.

Gruner & Jahr also owns Family Circle and McCall's. The purchase of Inc. was perceived to be the company's entry into American magazines aimed at a primarily male audience. A Fast Company purchase would consolidate that ...
