An exquisite voice beckons over stacks of turtlenecks at J. Crew.

I'm intrigued. Enough to put down my Christmas shopping list for a
minute and try to figure out who is singing. But when an ambient
beat and a techno flourish kick in behind the voice, I'm baffled and
perplexed. Before I can solve the mystery, it's over. The voice is
replaced by Nat King Cole singing about chestnuts and open fires, and
my holiday panic returns.
This is the beginning of a two-month love affair that is still
going strong. Just before Christmas, I got my first taste of the new
