The words "buried alive" may well constitute the most horrifying
phrase in the English language (with the possible exceptions of
"We're all out of ice cream" and "Press 2 for more options"). Many of
us have been struck by the irrational fear of being shut in a coffin
and lowered into the ground only to awake in that small, dark space
with no hope of getting out. The idea has long fueled the
imaginations of authors and filmmakers.
With a huge amount of research and healthy doses of skepticism and
