Former president Chun Doo Hwan was put on a life-support system
today after a 25-day hunger strike.
"His condition abruptly deteriorated early today and there was a
danger of him slipping into a coma," said Kim Kwon Jun, a doctor at
the National Police Hospital, where Chun was transferred from jail on
Dec. 20 after becoming too weak to drink water.
Kim said an oxygen mask and an intravenous drip were being used
for Chun, 64, who had agreed to the treatment. Doctors said Chun had
trouble breathing after complaining about a severe stomach ache
