Article: COALITION OF TOWNS SEEKS CABLE SERVICE COMPETITION

Frustrated with AT&T Broadband, a regional coalition of at least nine communities wants to bring competition to cable service.

The coalition is considering the development of a municipal cable system run by town electric departments as well as the possibility of luring other private cable companies to the area. Officials say they have banded together to improve local cable TV service and to keep rates from spiraling upward.

"We've got to think of some way to bring competition to AT&T," said Mark Fisher, a North Attleborough selectman. "We can sit here all day and complain about the lousy service, but the only way AT&T is going to start paying attention is if we hit them in the pocketbook ...
