CAMBRIDGE - The Tallis Scholars, the world's most acclaimed
purveyors of Renaissance polyphony, are regular visitors to Boston,
yet to judge from the enthusiastic capacity crowd at St. Paul's
Church Saturday night, they're a long way from wearing out their
welcome.
Their program, "Renaissance Splendor," began at the end.
Monteverdi is the bridge leading out of the Renaissance and into the
early Baroque. For those who know only the florid style of his operas
and Vespers setting, it's surprising that he also wrote traditional
polyphonic church music ...
