In the 1940s, '50s, and '60s, Kenneth Anger wasn't simply seeing the future, he was the future. His films were the music videos of their time, connecting the surrealists to the French New Wave to the birth of MTV and proclaiming the artistic possibility of a do-it- yourself aesthetic.
