WASHINGTON - Queen Elizabeth II is to arrive in Virginia tomorrow
to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the British founding of
Jamestown, five decades after making her first official visit to the
United States to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Jamestown's birth
- trips that could serve as bookends to her long reign.
The Queen, now 81, and her husband, Prince Philip, 85, will arrive
in the United States at a high point in their popularity as well as
the monarchy, having outlasted the turbulence in the 1980s and '90s
surrounding the divorces of their children.
The visit, which will be Elizabeth's fifth to the United States as
