CHELSEA - For the past decade, this perennially struggling city
has been a magnet for artists, musicians, photographers, and theater
professionals, drawn by its low housing costs and proximity to
Boston. What they have found, sometimes to their surprise, is what
generations before them discovered: Chelsea has a way of getting
under your skin.
One of them is late-blooming rock 'n' roll musician Bart Steele, a
prep-school graduate and former stockbroker who has adopted Chelsea
as home, inspiration, and cause. Using his music as a megaphone,
Steele has emerged as a kind of civic cheerleader for a city that can
use all the boosters it can get. "I just love this town," he
declares.
