Article: Builder that was replaced sues ICA for $6.6m Macomber: Museum ordered `extra work'

The construction company initially charged with building the Institute of Contemporary Art, whose dramatic glass-walled home is now a scenic fixture on the waterfront, has sued the museum for $6.6 million after being bounced off the project months before it was due to open.

George B.H. Macomber Co., founded in 1904 and once one of Boston's leading builders, filed suit July 18 in Suffolk Superior Court alleging it is owed money by the ICA, which hired the firm in 2004 to build its museum on Fan Pier.

The New York firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed the building, the firm's first museum project.

The ICA replaced Macomber with Skanska USA Building Inc. last year as work fell behind schedule. ...
