Newsletters abound on all aspects of life and work, from giving
birth to coping with death, from educating a preschooler to enjoying
retirement. Gardening is no exception. Newsletters with gardening
themes vary from the sublime to the functional.
Gardening newsletters differ from gardening magazines in several
ways. The best ones are highly specialized, concentrating on a
single angle - regional gardening, consumer alerts, tips, herbs and
so on. Newsletters have far fewer pages - typically four to 14 - and
fewer pictures and ads than magazines. Many have no pictures. Most
have no ads, and are supported only by subscriptions, which range
