Article: Locally owned Gulf Oil will put name on Pike stations

Gulf Oil LP will begin switching 11 gas stations it operates along the Massachusetts Turnpike from Exxon to its own Gulf brand this month, one of its biggest moves yet to promote New England's only major locally based gas brand.

The move will require shutting down stations between Natick and Lee for up to 48 hours as new signs - including a new Gulf Express convenience-store brand - faster-dispensing pumps, and speedier charge-card processors are installed. But Gulf chief executive Joseph Petrowski said the Newton company won't close more than one station on either side of the turnpike at a time to minimize inconvenience. The conversion should be done by mid-September, Petrowski said.
