Even while he was living it, his life was legend. From the
grave, he has inspired an opera, a major Hollywood movie and a
continuous contemporary drama. His name is shouted in rap lyrics and
sported on T-shirts. Nearly 30 years after his assassination, his
autobiography pops up on bestseller lists from here to Japan. His
stoic, spectacled face sometimes seems to be everywhere, gazing
resolutely off into the future. His vision is one we haven't been
able to grasp or let go. His omniscience is both comforting and
unsettling. He was the Messenger's messenger, and he is still
burning words into the consciousness of a nation that is sorely in
need of a decoder.
