The friendship between South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo and
folk poet Paul Simon continues. The two joined on the Grammy-winning
"Graceland" album in 1986 and just played four shows where they
effectively ended a cultural boycott that has choked that country for
years.
"Many people don't want Paul Simon to go back to America!"
Ladysmith leader Joseph Shabalala said this week by phone from South
Africa. "They want him to stay, though there are a few who thought
this was not the right time to come. Those few are still talking
about a cultural boycott. But I think Paul Simon wants to follow the
law of music, rather than the law of politicians."
