Newhouse News Service has signed a contract to purchase
Religious News Service, a wire service devoted to religious news.
Religious News Service, a 60-year-old operation serving
religious and secular publications, was bought from the Dallas-based
United Methodist Reporter, it was announced this week. Terms of the
contract were not released.
Newhouse, a subsidiary of Advance Publications, is scheduled to
take control of Religious News Service by July 31. The Rev. Judy
Weidman, the executive editor, will remain with the service, but its
headquarters will be moved from New York to Washington.
