Virginia freshman basketball player Konecka Drakeford said
today through a written statement released by the school's sports
information office that she is withdrawing from school in the wake
of a conviction earlier this week on two counts of petty larceny.
"I would like to start by first apologizing to my family for
all the embarrassment I personally caused them," the statement read.
"I would also like to apologize to the women's basketball team and
the university for the same reasons. Everyone makes mistakes
throughout their lives. It's unfortunate that I made mine now. I
feel it's in my best interest to leave the university at the end of
the semester."
