WASHINGTON -- The United States has agreed to contribute two
C-130 cargo planes for a UN airlift into Sarajevo, but President Bush
said yesterday he is still not prepared to use US military force in
the bloody Bosnian warfare.
"We have two task forces right now in the Mediterranean," Bush
said during an interview on "CBS This Morning." The president said
he has "the responsibility, ultimate, as commander-in-chief for the
deployment of those forces and the utilization of those forces. I
have no plans at this juncture to use those forces."
At the moment, Bush said, Sarajevo airport is open and ready to
receive cargoloads of food and medicine for the besieged population,
