Article: Lack of Tall Ships dampens Plymouth Festival of Sails

When people came to the Plymouth Festival of Sails, many expected to see a harbor crowded with big ships, high masts and billowing sails.

They were disappointed.

Five vessels from the Tall Ships fleet in Boston had sailed into the harbor since Tuesday for the four-day festival that began Thursday. But by yesterday afternoon, only one Class C Tall Ship, the Danza, remained.

And festival organizers were not sure how much longer the Danza would stay in the harbor, said Paula Fisher, a Plimoth Plantation spokeswoman.

The festival, billed as "the largest event in Plymouth's history," according to a press release, runs through Sunday, with or without the ships, Fisher said. Prior obligations ...
