August is upon us and the native tomatoes are ripening. It's
getting to be time for one of the best sandwiches of the summer:
slices of the fruit's succulent red flesh, a few leaves of fresh
basil, some mayonnaise, a little salt and pepper, all slipped between
two slices of cheese bread. Plain or toasted, the bread enhances the
flavor of the other seasonal ingredients.
Our favorite cheese bread just happens to be found on Martha's
Vineyard which is undoubtedly one of the best places to be these blue
and yellow days. The Old Stone Bakery sells about 10,000 loaves of
