August is upon us and the native tomatoes are ripening. It's getting to be time for one of the best sandwiches of the summer: slices of the fruit's succulent red flesh, a few leaves of fresh basil, some mayonnaise, a little salt and pepper, all slipped between two slices of cheese bread. Plain or toasted, the bread enhances the flavor of the other seasonal ingredients.
