The Jan. 20 editorial "In Haiti, Try Again" holds that there
now remain "realistically ... only two choices" for Haiti: (1)
removal from power of the Haitian military by an "invading force
{that} would be multinational and ... benign"; or (2) "begin to
negotiate with the soldiers." Although the latter course failed last
year, The Post rejects the first alternative on grounds that Haiti's
"historical memory" of the U.S. Marine occupation of 1915-34 is too
strong "for even the best intentioned of invasions to succeed. It is
always difficult for foreign troops to ... establish a stable
