Article: Far from a safe haven Fear colors daily life for refugees in Germany

BERLIN -- The phone call came at night, an anonymous caller saying that neo-Nazi skinheads were on the march to the refugee center in the Spandau neighborhood of Berlin.

Within minutes, many of the Gypsy families were in a panic. They gathered up their children and rushed to another refugee center a few blocks away. Once there, they were told to shut the doors and windows and keep their children off the street.

The march never materialized. But the panic indicated the fear that nibbles at the edge of a refugee's life in Germany these days.

"If you ask me, the worst nation I know is the Germans," said Juso Ferhatevic, a Gypsy and a businessman who fled Bosnia three months
