CIZRE, Turkey -- The blackened blades of the ceiling fan droop like an unwatered flower. Shards of broken dishes and spent bullets litter what remains of the kitchen floor. Bits of concrete still fall from the blasted walls.
Until a government militia assaulted it two weeks ago, this was home to the Hessen family, sympathizers of Kurdish separatist guerrillas. Today, it is another macabre monument to the suddenly expanding Kurdish conflict in Turkey.
