While most people associate holiday festivities with the foods of
the season -- cranberries, roasted chestnuts and egg nog, to name a
few -- for the food allergy sufferer, it's a time when one bite of
the wrong food can result in indigestion, skin irritations and, in
some cases, even death.
"You don't have to have a history of allergy to be affected by a
food allergy," says Dr. Susan Wynn, an allergist with Fort Worth
Allergy & Asthma Associates. "Food allergies can start at any age
and seldom go away with the passage of time."
While any food can cause a reaction in a given individual, some
foods -- wheat, corn, fish, nuts, eggs, milk and shellfish -- are
more common culprits than ...
