Rolling Stone magazine is the subject of a self-consciously hip,
90-minute MTV documentary tonight, entitled "Rolling Stone's 25th
Anniversary: The MTV Special." It's a meeting of two media giants
who trip over themselves to be cool, while shamelessly promoting each
other as the voice of mainstream pop culture.
Tonight's 10 o'clock show still makes for recommended viewing --
if just because of the wide cast of stars interviewed -- but you have
to have a strong stomach for self-congratulation. One of the most
telling comments comes from Mick Jagger, who assesses both Rolling
Stone and MTV: "Get rid of both of them!" he says with a grin.
