At: Avalon on Thursday night.
Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, the outlaw compadre and guitar foil
of Keith Richards, brought his gallivanting, geezer-filled solo tour
to a sold-out 1,500 fans at Avalon on Thursday. If you liked
straightahead rock with a classic nod to the Stones and Faces (Wood's
earlier band with Rod Stewart), there was no better place to be.
Wood went on at 8:30 ("I can't believe how early this show is!"
he said), an ungodly hour given the late-night, pub-rock tone of the
music. But Avalon was switching over to a dance club format later in
the night, so Wood had to go on first.
He was thus slow to warm up, but once he hit his stride, he hit it
