CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING:
Lyubov Egorova of Russia could tie the all-time record for most
gold medals won by a woman in the Olympics in the women's
4x5-kilometer relay today. The record was set by Soviet speed skater
Lydia Skoblikova in 1960-64. Remarkably, Egorova, a 28-year-old
Siberian, has won a gold or silver medal in every Olympic event
she's ever entered. She could break Skoblikova's record in
Thursday's 30K classical race. The Russians are heavily favored
today, followed by the Italians, Norwegians and Finns. Egorova could
also tie the all-time record for most Olympic medals - 10 - held by
Soviet cross-country skier Raisa Smetanina.
