Picking retail stocks is a little like shopping for a new
television set. There are lots of name brands and dozens of models,
but neither Consumer Reports nor a Wall Street equivalent can
guarantee that you will find the best buy, and that it won't be on
sale at a lower price next week.
The TV analogy is particularly apt when it comes to investing
in consumer electronics retailers. Should you put your money on
Richmond's Circuit City Stores Inc., the No. 1 chain in the nation?
Or is the best buy for investors the industry's No. 2, Best Buy Co.
