THE strain of the McCanns' ongoing ordeal, and Kate's resulting
lack of sleep, is etched for all to see upon her increasingly gaunt
face. Stress and anxiety are common triggers for insomnia, but you
don't have to be under the intense strain experienced by the McCanns
to be affected. Just worrying about not sleeping can be enough to
stop you doing so.
Helping people with insomnia used to centre on handing over a
prescription for sleeping tablets, but times have changed.
"Sleepers", particularly temazepam and other members of the Valium
family, are now frowned upon with doctors increasingly reserving
