No benefits for city

Well, Go Topeka and the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce have misfired once again.

Go Topeka offered up $50,000 (from the quarter-cent sales tax we pay) to purchase the land for the proposed ethanol plant at US-24 highway and Huxman Road. Unfortunately, the revenue stream the city assumed it would receive from this proposed business has all but dried up. Instead of purchasing water from the city, Emerald Renewable Energy (aka Cargill Inc.) is planning on buying the millions of gallons of water needed to operate the plant from a rural water district.
