Article: 'Yuzhitang' diet food deaths remain a mystery

GUANGZHOU: The "Yuzhitang" diet food suspected of causing the deaths of two girls' in Chongqing and Shanghai is an illegal product, but no evidence has been confirmed to indicate that the diet food was made and sold by the Guangzhou Yuzhitang Health Food Company, the health department of South China's Guangdong Province announced on Monday.

The statement was made in response to an appeal from Liu Shengquan from Chongqing Municipality. "My 19-year-old daughter Liu Yanmei died in August last year after taking the Yuzhitang diet capsules," Liu claimed, adding the girl had suffered from headaches and stomach- aches since she began taking the diet product in February.
