S. Africa groups file suit against 20 firms

South African activists said yesterday they had filed suit in a US court against 20 European and American firms for allegedly encouraging human rights abuses by trading in formerly white-ruled South Africa.

The corporations listed in the suit include Swiss banks Credit Suisse and UBS, oil giants Exxon Mobil and BP, US car makers Ford and General Motors, and computer giant IBM.
