Article: Chinese athletes head for Asian Winter Games

Double Olympic gold medallist Yang Yang (A) and figure skating pairs world champions Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo will headline China's 176-member squad for the Asian Winter Games in Aomori, Japan.

The event, starting at the weekend, will be a springboard for the emergence of new talent from the just-concluded National 10th Winter Games to the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.

Chinese athletes will compete in nine sports in Japan - speeding skating, figure skating, short-track speed skating, ice hockey, curling, downhill, cross country and biathlon and vie for 44 gold medals.
