The steady advance of suburbs is nothing new in Northern
Virginia, but a new study suggests the pattern is spreading across
Virginia.
"The suburbs of Northern Virginia are running into the suburbs
of Albemarle County, which are running into the suburbs of
Richmond," said Julia H. Martin, director of demographic research at
the University of Virginia's Center for Public Service.
The university released a study this week that indicates
population growth is spreading more evenly across Virginia.
The closing of gaps between metropolitan areas is different
from the growth in the 1980s, which occurred primarily along the
so-called "golden crescent" between Northern Virginia and Hampton ...
