Article: Swiss economy rises

Swiss leading economic indicators in January rose to their highest in almost three years, adding to signs the economy is reviving from its longest recession in more than a decade.

The monthly aggregate of indicators, which the Zurich-based KOF economic research institute uses to predict the direction of the economy in six months, increased to 0.7 in January from 0.58 in the previous month, KOF said in a statement.

The Swiss economy will probably expand "at least" 1.5 per cent this year after shrinking in 2003, Swiss National Bank President Jean- Pierre Roth said.
