Thailand's government cut its economic growth forecast to 6.5 per cent this year after second-quarter expansion was less than expected because of record oil prices and an outbreak of bird flu.

The government cut the growth estimate for 2004 by half of a percentage point after the National Economic and Social Development Board reported yesterday that gross domestic product in Southeast Asia's second-largest economy expanded at a seasonally adjusted 0.8 per cent, the same as the previous quarter.
