Richard Harris talks like an epic hero who has descended into
hell and returned to the world much wiser and eager to tell of his
adventure.
"I'm a very spiritual guy who lost his faith," the Irish-born
actor said. "My mother was a daily communicant. My father was a
daily communicant. I was brought up on this religious faith. Then I
went to England and began to disintegrate."
That was the mid-1950s, and the soon-to-be film star of "This
Sporting Life," "A Man Called Horse" and "Camelot" was launching his
acting career and the antics for which he also would become famous:
drinking, brawling, womanizing and generally having a good time.
Today he has mellowed.
