Article: Visitors lured to Germany's Christmas markets

DRESDEN: The alluring aroma of hot mulled wine and roasted almonds draws millions of visitors to Germany's numerous Christmas markets during the Advent season before Christmas.

Indeed, according to the German Central Tourism Office (DZT) in Frankfurt, around 160 million people throng the booths of some 2,500 Christmas, Advent and Christkindl (Christ Child) markets. Many of these enchanting events can look back on a centuries-old tradition.
