Candles covered the guitar amps Friday night as Pearl Jam,
Seattle's mega-band, decided the show must go on after learning of
the suicide of Kurt Cobain, leader of Seattle's other mega-band,
Nirvana. The Patriot Center's 10,000 ticket holders were hushed as
lead singer Eddie Vedder, lit only by the candles, quietly sang the
first song, "Release."
Playing with even more than its usual passion, Pearl Jam roared
through such power-blast numbers as "Animal" and "Go" before
tackling "Jeremy," an early hit single for the band, about a misfit
