VERY big fish swim in the Pacific waters off the coast of Costa
Rica, and big men spend big bucks trying to catch them. Last month
one of them was Ted Tuppen, chief executive of Enterprise Inns, who
was mulling over the most important deal of his life as he sat in the
back of his game boat.
A 900lb haul of sailfish later, Tuppen was back in the City, ready
to land the big one. Meetings with Morgan Stanley, Cinven and L&G
Ventures followed and a consortium was ready to bid pounds 2bn for
Nomura's remaining tenanted pub assets which the Japanese bank put on
the market on January 25.
The deal was announced on Wednesday and by Friday night Enterprise
Inns' share price was riding a record high at ...
