One thing Joe Carter was determined to do this season was not
live in the past, which is no easy thing since his immediate past
includes one of the most dramatic home runs ever, an electrifying
ninth-inning shot that ended the 1993 World Series and wrapped up a
second straight championship for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Never mind that with one swing of the bat, Carter may have
punched his ticket to Cooperstown, that with a single swing,
millions of people finally recognized him as one of the game's best
and most consistent run producers, which he has been for about eight
