SALE'S LAST scheduled first-class match at Heywood Road proved to
be a damp squib for the home fans as Wasps scrambled a victory that
lifts them significantly closer to a home play-off semi-final,
probably, against the same opposition.
Persistent rain turned the match into an old fashioned mauling,
squabbling affair that was shaded by the muscle men of Wasps, led by
Lawrence Dallaglio and Joe Worsley.
Wasps scored the only try of the match in a first-half assault
that brought a crucial lead of 10-6. After the interval roles were
reversed, but Sale never created the same chances in a match that
brought the curtain down on almost a century of Sale games at Heywood
Road.
