AFTER three years of falling equity markets which burnt the
fingers of even the most cautious of investors, UK consumers have
become increasingly discerning in their search for value for money.
At the recent annual general meetings of Britain's largest
companies, shareholders have turned out en masse to reject the pay
deals of the country's fattest fat cats in a bid to ensure boards are
truly doing their best to increase shareholder value.
Meanwhile, in the housing market, where signs of a slowdown in
prices have begun to emerge, levels of remortgaging have continued to
rise as homeowners have persisted in trying to ensure that they
always have the best mortgage rates.
