Article: Even estate agents cannot fathom this housing market

OUR HOUSE has been crawling with estate agents over the past week. They were supposed to be giving us an idea of what we might expect to get for it, but we're actually more confused at the end of the week than we were at the beginning.

We knew this was a daft time to sell. We also knew we would have to accept what estate agents call a "realistic price". But we had expected some indication of what constituted "realistic". It is obvious that even those closest to the market haven't a clue what's going on.

The highest valuation was a whacking 20 per cent above the lowest. The rest ranged fairly evenly along a line between the two.
