It is almost six years to the day since Rose Marie Bravo arrived
at Burberry charged with reviving the neglected luxury goods brand
that at the time was known for little more than its plaid-lined
raincoats.
For the sharp-elbowed 52-year-old New Yorker - who is a proud if
unlikely grandmother - her first day as chief executive proved to be
a severe culture shock. At the time, Burberry's headquarters were
little more than a few rag-bag offices above the company's raincoat
factory in a dowdier corner of the East End of London.
The stuffy directors' dining room at Chatham Place, Hackney, was
not exactly what the former president of Saks, New York's fashionable
Fifth Avenue department store, had ...
