The winner of seven consecutive Order of Merit titles in the
Nineties, a long-time member of Royal Troon, the course that hosts
this year's Open Championship, and the leading player when Europe and
America last met, there seemed no better man to look ahead to Ryder
Cup year than Colin Montgomerie.
Mark Reason: Did your finish in the Johnnie Walker Classic
encourage you or discourage you for the season?
Colin Montgomerie: The most discouraged I am is after finishing
second. I'd prefer to miss the cut than do that. So finishing 13th
was OK. There was nothing untoward, I just didn't hole enough putts.
But it is the first time since I won my last Order of Merit in 1999
that I feel comfortable ...
