THREE of Channel 4's most senior former executives have attacked the station for filling its schedules with "crap" that is designed to appeal only to a young audience.

Sir Jeremy Isaacs, the channel's first chief executive, and Vanni Treves, who stood down as chairman this year, say that the broadcaster's reliance on programmes such as Big Brother, How Clean Is Your House? and Wife Swap means it is in danger of failing in its public service remit.

Sir Michael Bishop, a former chairman and deputy chairman, also questions the quality of the output and suggests that it is time to overhaul its schedules.
