Dick Schofield hit his fifth career grand slam and first home
run in almost two years yesterday, leading the Toronto Blue Jays
over the California Angels, 9-4, at SkyDome.
Ed Sprague started the second inning with a walk, Mike Huff
doubled and Randy Knorr walked, loading the bases against Mark
Langston (2-3). Schofield hit the next pitch for his first homer
since Sept. 29, 1992.
Schofield's last grand slam came on June 14, 1987, when he
played for the Angels. The grand slam was only the second given up
by Langston (2-3) in his 10-year career. The other came when he
played for Seattle and allowed one to Detroit's Darnell Coles on May
31, 1986.
